Courses Details and Discussion !!!
In less than a week, the simple, yet profound Art of Living Part I Course brings to our experience that life is truly beautiful! The Sudarshan Kriya, is a powerful energizer and cleanser, while the knowledge discussed on the course, presents life’s deepest secrets in a language that is easily understood.
Life is much more than our innumerable habitual daily routines... It is so much more than just eating, drinking, sleeping, working, chatting...
The Program opens our eyes, mind and heart to how much more meaningful and complete our lives can be. In a harmonious environment, it’s easy to say, “I feel peaceful and contented.” However, if nothing goes to plan and there is utter chaos all around, and you still say, “Yes! I am peaceful and happy,” then you have attained something very special indeed... That is The Art of Living... and that is what the Part I course brings to our experience.
Although the Art of Living Course Part I is considered to be the entry program for adults, it is recommended that one repeat this course every few months. Infact, according to most repeaters, with every successive course one receives a better understanding of the knowledge points. Through simple and effective course points, Sri Sri has made accessible profound knowledge.
"I have done so many courses wasting thousands of dollars but the satisfaction I got from this course is just awesome and I suggest it for every human being."

Apex Program
"Motivation comes from the outside. Inspiration comes from within. You can motivate a person, but that motivation is short-lived. Inspiration, on the other hand, can last a whole lifetime."
-- H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Every successful Corporate House worth its salt knows the importance of maintaining and upgrading facilities and equipment to obtain optimum performance levels. Many companies, however, fail to give an equal amount of attention to their most precious resource – their employees. With increasing competition, and pressure to do things cheaper, better and faster, the quality of an employee’s life is often overlooked.
When problems of stress and conflict in the workplace are not remedied, employees grow frustrated, or feel overwhelmed, and this leads to problems like greater absenteeism, decreased motivation, limited creativity and a deterioration in morale. Unless employees are centered and balanced, a company’s economic growth, and true potential cannot be fully realized.
One often hears that the IQ (Intelligence Quotient) is a measure of success. Yet, in the workplace, its not just about how intelligent one is, but also about how well one handles the big ‘S’, ‘Stress’. However, though stress is considered to be a necessary occupational hazard, this does not have to be the case – as corporate houses, the world over, are discovering, through the APEX (Achieving Personal Excellence) Programme.
A highly specialized, practical, and effective training Programme, it presents a paradigm shift, from ‘working hard’ to ‘working smart’. It provides employees with the solution to striking a balance between meeting the demands of one’s personal life and professional commitments. It strengthens managers and employees, enabling them to experience unshakable calm and inner clarity in the face of any business challenge or crisis. Several companies report a significant increase in their employees’ levels of responsibility, and commitment, post their participation in the APEX, and these translate into considerably larger profits.

ART Excel
"A mind in the present moment is meditation"
– H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
ART EXCEL stands for All Round Training in Excellence. As the name suggests, children get training covering all aspects - physical, mental, spiritual.
It is a highly effective stress management and human values training program.
Through play and fun and laughter, children learn valuable lessons on how to share with others, work and play in harmony and develop a sense of belongingness. They become more self-expressive and comfortable and natural even with diverse groups of people.
They are also taught some yoga and effective and powerful breathing processes which help to eliminate fear, anxiety, depression and other undesirable emotions.
Meditation, being an important tool to tap the children's hidden potential, forms an integral part of the program.
"I sleep better and I don't get angry a lot anymore."
- Sandra, middle school student, Florida
To truly excel in life is an art, and though much emphasis has traditionally been placed on higher academic achievement, more can be done to give children the tools to handle stress and live life to their fullest potential. The true measure of success is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted child that is able to deal effectively with life’s challenges.
The ART Excel course is a highly effective stress management and human values training program for children. A unique aspect of the program is a specific set of breathing techniques that systematically release emotional and physical stress. Children can use these techniques in any situation to bring about a state of calmness and relaxation, and human values such as joy, friendliness and compassion that are naturally present in children but may have been hidden by stress become apparent.
Practice of these techniques also increases mental clarity and focus. With the ability to thinking clearly, manage their emotions and release stress, children are able to excel in all aspects of life; academic, social, and extracurricular.
The children show enhancement of creative skills, improvement of memory and concentration, development of leadership qualities and healthy emotions, clarity of mind and better interaction with everyone after undergoing the program.
ART EXCEL programs give proper direction to the enthusiasm and dynamism in children. It helps them to contribute to the society by making them responsible beings.
Benefits include:
- Enhancement of creative skills
- Improvement of memory and concentration
- Healthier emotions
- Better interaction with others

Austin, TX - City of Austin funds Art of Living Program as Innovative Wellness for Students
“Local Students Learn a 5,000-year-old Technique that has Brought Smiles to Stressed-out Executives, Homemakers, Heads of State, and Enemy Combatants” by Patti Montella
“I have no more stress. If something bad happens I just am able to relax and take deep breaths,” says Laura Jaimes, a 7th grade student at Mendez Middle School. The 12-year-old continues: “I've changed. When I get mad, I don't say something I'll regret later. I just go to my room and do the breathing practices taught to me and it's like nothing bad happened.”
Laura recently participated in an innovative program offered to students and teachers at Mendez, by the internationally- lauded Art of Living Foundation (AOLF). The foundation’s ART Excel program (All ‘Round Excellence in Training) for 8 to 13-year-olds is currently being offered as a pilot for 160 middle school students and teachers through a grant between the Art of Living Foundation and the City of Austin’s Health and Human Services Department. Through grants and private donations, the foundation hopes to expand the program to more schools in Williamson and Travis county.
During the course, the students learn how to release stress and calm their nerves using yoga postures and ancient breathing techniques based on a 5,000-year-old practice. The breathing techniques are unique to the Art of Living program and, if used regularly, can improve mental clarity, overall health, confidence and a sense of well-being. At the same time, negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, fear, and depression are released The program is taught to people from every walk of life in 150+ countries, including prison inmates, war refugees, stressed out executives and heads of state. It’s also proved beneficial to this group of initially-skeptical students.
Like all teens and pre-teens, students at Mendez Middle School struggle with the pressures of growing up, hormonal changes and peer pressure, while trying to make sense of their own identity. Yet many students in this high- risk, low socio-economic Southeast Austin community have additional pressures to overcome. Eighty three percent of students at Mendez come from an economically disadvantaged household, with 89 percent of the primarily Hispanic student population qualifying for free or reduced-priced lunches. At the end of the school day they walk home through neighborhoods riddled with high incidents of crime, drug use and gang activity. As if this is not enough, many face the additional challenges of having a parent in prison, living in acute poverty or dealing with some form of abuse.
Following the shooting death of Daniel Rocha last year, former Austin City Councilman Raul Alvarez was looking for new ways to address the racial tension and anger between the police department and the Southeast Austin community that had escalated to an all- time high. At the same time, Patti Montella, director of Art of Living Youth Programs, was contacting the Mayor’s office to offer the foundation’s programs as an alternative solution to ease the tension and violence in the community, especially among youth. “Our programs have helped millions of people around the world end the cycle of violence and hatred and live a happier, healthier life - by learning how to release stress and manage negative emotions,” she said. “If we can help people in areas of extreme conflict such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, I knew we could uplift our own community using these same programs.”
This past spring, through a grant provided by the City of Austin, the Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) started teaching a pilot group of students and teachers at Mendez the “art of living”, a life free of stress and full of joy. The program combines the science of the breath and yoga with education that rekindles human values such as love, compassion, non-violence, enthusiasm and a deep reverence for all life, which often become diminished over time with high levels of stress.
“Traditionally the emphasis in education has been on academic achievement,” said Ms. Montella. “Meanwhile, today’s youth are faced with levels of stress that make academic achievement, success, health and happiness in life more of a challenge than ever before. Consequently, it is essential to empower students with holistic education that develops the whole child and strengthens the personality in order that they are empowered to overcome life’s challenges with confidence and the ability to keep their smile, no matter what the circumstance.”
Students aren’t the only ones benefiting from the program’s healing breath techniques and wisdom for living a happier, healthier life. Belinda Monreal, an instructional specialist at Mendez participated in the adult version of the course and continues with follow-up sessions today. “I'm sleeping better. I'm less irritable. If I see a situation, now I'm able to take deep breaths and just take it from there. My sister said that I don't seem as anxious,” said Ms. Monreal.
The Art of Living Foundation is a non-profit educational and humanitarian organization active in 152 countries. It is the world’s largest volunteer- based organization and a member of the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations. It was founded in 1982 by renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in 2006 and 2005. AOLF programs have been actively offered in Austin since 1999. During Austin’s Hurricane Katrina relief effort, AOLF Austin volunteers and national staff taught its special trauma relief programs at the Austin Convention Center and other relief centers throughout Texas and Louisiana. During that time, Shankar traveled from India to Austin to meet with victims impacted by the disaster, as well as volunteers and public officials, including Mayor Will Wynn.
Independent research studies on the foundation’s adult program indicate its unique breathing techniques reduce cortisol, the “stress hormone”, reduce cholesterol, and relieve anxiety and depression. The studies also indicate enhanced brain function such as; increased mental focus and faster recovery from stressful stimuli, as well as an overall sense of better health and well-being.
The Art of Living Foundation offers programs for people of all ages including college students, business executives, criminal justice officials, prison inmates, medical professionals and the general public. This year the foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary celebrating its vision of creating “One World Family”. It made history as 2.5 million people representing 110 countries gathered in Bangalore, India for the largest peace and meditation event ever recorded.
Miami, FL
100 children were taught the ART Excel program under the Children's Trust Grant at four different schools: Fienberg Fisher Elementary, South Pointe Elementary (both in Miami Beach), Horace Mann Middle School and Lawton Chiles Middle School (both in Miami). The students received the ART Excel course and 8 weeks of aftercare.

Yes!
"There is a major difference between intention and desire. Intention is desire without the feverishness, without the hurry."
-- H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
The Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) is a dynamic and innovative program for teens which includes practical tools for releasing stress, techniques for mental focus and concentration, tools for dealing with negative emotions, leadership skills, problem-solving strategies, yoga exercises and community service. The techniques and skills teens learn help them deal with the demands of school and work, relationships, friends, and parents smoothly.
“YES! Has interesting and deep points about how to live life happily. The breathing exercises help me to feel much more energetic and happy. I am waking up earlier and I don’t feel like sleeping 24/7! I feel very good as if I am a better person. YES! Should stand for Young Exceptional Students!”
- Olivia, 15, CA
YES! for Teens is a program that revolutionizes how teens deal with the increasing social and academic pressures of adolescence. The course provides students with problem-solving strategies and leadership training, skills on how to release stress, manage negative emotions and advanced techniques for non-violent conflict resolution. It places a special emphasis on education that fosters human values, a sense of belonging, a broader vision and attitude of service toward others. Experiential processes are designed to help teens feel at ease in challenging situations and foster the increased confidence and inner strength needed to better handle criticism, peer pressure and rise above life’s challenges while keeping enthusiasm and a deep reverence for all life.
Cultivating an attitude of service toward others and feeling empowered to effect positive social change is essential part of the human values education in the YES! course. Community service projects are organized either during the course, or post-course in order to integrate the human values education into their lives through first hand experience. Youth are challenged to go beyond their limited perspective to consider the world at large, developing a broader vision for both themselves, their community and society as a whole.
School Projects :
Los Angelas, CA - YES! Brings Peace to LA High
In 2002, Los Angeles High School (LAHS) adopted the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) as an after school program. Through the administration, they were able to offer the YES! program to students as an alternative to 6 sessions of their regular classes.
YES! is no easy task: it asks students to commit to 6 consecutive days of 3 hour sessions after their regular classes are over. Why would busy high school students with challenging lives join an extra curricular class with such long hours, you may wonder?
Well, at the end of the most recent YES! program in 2006, Karen, a participant, said:
"What I like about 'YES!' is that we learned new things, like how to do breathing techniques and yoga, and all the games we did with the lessons. I like it because it makes me relax, and now I know how to pay attention during class at school. I find I started to sleep earlier, and I have more energy."
Through various processes and techniques the YES! program reduces stress and educates participants in being more responsible. The administration of LAHS was looking for ways to correct the outbursts of violence, and the YES! program offered to minimize just that. That is with the understanding that violence and stress are just two sides of the same coin. The students taught over the past 4 years at LAHS have reported various benefits including greater focus and concentration, regulated sleep, less anger and frustration (which leads to violent behavior), greater connectedness to their classmates (especially ones in other grade levels), and overall less stress. Teachers have also confirmed that several of their students, after having gone through the YES! program, were more focused in class and more punctual.
To date, 300 of the 5000 member student body have participated in the YES! Course.
The teachers and administrators at LAHS are confident that as more and more students participate in YES!, such issues as violent crimes on campus grounds are sure to reduce and eventually disappear.
New Orleans , LA
Art of Living Recognized as Premier Stress and Trauma Relief Organization
This summer AOL’s sister organization, the International Association for Human Values (IAHV), dispatched a group of enthusiastic young people from all over the world to hurricane-devastated New Orleans. This group of 32 underwent an intensive, residential 10-day Youth Leadership Training Program (YLTP) to become Breath-Water-Sound (BWS) Trauma Relief Teachers. Individuals and groups then organized free BWS courses with residents, volunteer organizations, businesses, and families in the New Orleans area.
One YLTP team, along with some expert YES! Teachers, taught the YES! Program at the Louisiana juvenile detention center, which brought an overall sense of calm to the center and led to a decrease in violent incidents. Several group members ran a free summer camp in cooperation with Common Ground for displaced children, providing food and stress-free activities for children in the Woodlands housing project. Because of the efforts of YLTP and some senior Art of Living Teachers, IAHV is now recognized as the city’s premier stress and trauma relief organization by the City Council of New Orleans.
Make a difference this winter! IAHV is currently accepting applications from dynamic youth ages 18-35 for its December 27-January 14 YLTP! Dig deep into yourself and discover what you’re made of. Become a BWS teacher. Change lives. See [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] for an application.
Washington, D.C. - Breaking the Cycle of Youth Violence in D.C.: Beyond the Rhetoric
In response to several violent events in North East Washington D.C., including armed muggings, gang violence, and open air drug use, the Art of Living Chapter mobilized an intervention team to begin a year long program addressing the needs of an inner city neighborhood in a transitional ghetto. The initial outreach culminated in a block party at the Academy for Ideal Education, a private school enrolled with approximately 200 middle and high school students from inner city D.C. The party hosted an international food festival, student fashion show, medical screenings, and meet & greet with the local community. Approximately 250 people attended.
A follow up to this rapport-building event was the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) Program offered to 30 high school students at the Academy. The students enjoyed the program and found it to be helpful in relaxation and stress elimination. The second follow up action was the organization of a town hall meeting addressing youth violence in the district. The meeting hosted a panel of civic and community leaders and focused on providing a forum for youth as well as leaders of the community to voice their concerns, views and suggestions regarding the issue of youth violence.
The three activities in the last 2 months have resulted in implementation of YES! as a year-long program at Ideal Academy and other DCPS high schools. In addition, much networking and rapport building with other civic groups has happened around how to create a culture of non-violence, as well as the creation of a mentoring program utilizing the members of the Washington, D.C. metro area Art of Living Foundation.
New York , NY - New York City Breaks the Mold with YES!!
Starting 2006-2007, YES! is being offered each quarter as a credit course at City-As-School High School in New York City. City-As-School is a progressive school where students are required to complete internships encompassing various curriculums. YES! is offered as an alternative to Health, Surplus, or Physical Education credit.
Students at the school come from varied and challenging backgrounds and find the YES! course to be tremendously helpful in their everyday lives.
“Once I started taking this class, I have been eating more healthily. I haven’t gotten mad and if I do start getting mad I know how to control myself. Thank you for teaching everyone these breathing techniques.” –Kristoff, City-As-School Student. Students have found great benefits and have thoroughly enjoyed the course. This was demonstrated in part by the fact that attendance for YES! was substantially higher than projected daily attendance at the school.
“The YES! course was a great experience. I feel a more prominent source of motivation in my life. I feel more concerned about doing more productive things in my life.” –Philip, City-As-School Student
The adult version of the course, the Art of Living Course for Educators, was taught to an initial group of City-As-School teachers this fall. Many of the teachers felt relieved as they saw their stresses and tensions dissipate.
“I feel better than I have in a long while. My mild depression has lifted. I feel excited about doing these practices in the morning, so I look forward to getting up in the morning.” -City-As-School Teacher
The Art of Living Foundation is dedicated to “Creating A Stress-Free, Violence-Free Society”. Integrating our programs and offering them to both students and teachers has been a tremendous step in the right direction. Teachers at City-As-School are now able to support students in the knowledge and stress reduction practices they learned on YES!, so that they can further integrate them into their lives.
Chicago, IL - WELLNESS CLASS gets NEW JUICE in CHICAGO
NEW TRIER High School, Winnetka, Illinois YES! Pilot Course, January- February, 2006
The Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) Pilot Program was held for four weeks from January to February 2006, with about 60 junior-year student volunteers. The students were divided into three sections and met during the school day in place of their Kinetic Wellness class. Evaluations were administered immediately following the program. Student responses were remarkably consistent, reporting reductions in stress and an increase in calmness. Students agreed that they gained a valuable life skill as well as a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world.
“It was exciting, eye-opening, helpful, fun, relaxing. It helps you re-evaluate purpose in life and explains how everything is related to the mind. This course really, without a doubt changed my life in a positive way, (improved my life). I found it extremely helpful and so relevant to everyday life that it is for everybody, and I mean everybody!!!!!!”
“This course to me was amazing. Because it is a different way to view life and has really changed me. Easier to go to sleep, Communication and focus, better grades in last month, helped me to calm down for presentations and sports, easier to pay attention in class.”
“I thought it was a very positive experience. I was able to apply the skills I learned in my life and I learned a lot about myself as a person. The breathing helped me concentrate better on what I was studying. I think it’s a useful set of skills and it gave me a different perspective on life.”
Baltimore, MD - Baltimore Youth Get their Prayers Answered
The Zanvyl and Isabelle Krieger Fund awarded a grant enabling the YES! program to be offered at Northwestern High School in inner city Baltimore during the 2005-06 school year. Art of Living youth instructors reached 112 at-risk students over the course of this two-month pilot program that culminated in a summer camp for 53 students from NYC, Baltimore, Manitoba, Canada, and Washington D.C.
Testimonials:
"I prayed to God for some release of my stress – somehow I was stressing out really bad about family issues and stuff in my life and then all of a sudden, the YES! program popped up at my school and I joined the class. When I stopped taking the class, I realized that it had relieved a lot of my stress. I was more friendly to people around me, and more relaxed and more focused on my work instead of real tense and stressed. The class gave me a chance to think before acting. I wanted to go to Canada to further the program because I wanted that same feeling. I have never been out of Baltimore and I have never done anything like this before"
Tashana, Northwestern High School, 16 years old
Before I used to fight anything that came up to me, but this program has changed me a lot. Like today, there was this incident in the cafeteria. A girl came up to me all mad and she popped me. Of course you're gonna want to retaliate, and hit back. But that's not the right thing to do. So I just tried to push her off me and security came. She got in trouble, and me, I got away all good because I didn't do anything… so stay out of trouble, stay out of trouble… and that's from the YES! Program.
Everyone needs this in their life…From student, to people. I want to be a teacher!
Martika, Northwestern High School, 17 years old
Brooklyn, NY - In New York, Students and Teachers both say YES!
At the High School of Telecommunication, Arts & Technology (HSTAT) in Brooklyn, NY, the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) is a regular after school program and student club. The YES! Course and YES! Club has attracted honors students as well as students that are struggling in school or at home.
Students say that because of YES!, they can more easily focus in class, have less test anxiety, and get their homework done faster and more efficiently. Other students report that they don’t get angry or irritated as much anymore, are able to resolve conflict without fighting, and feel calmer, more in control of themselves, and more at peace in general. When the 6-day intensive part of YES! ends, the students at HSTAT exclaim how sad they are that it will now be only once a week!
In addition, the Art of Living Course for Educators has been offered at the school and produced wonderful effects for the teachers, including reduced stress levels, more energy, more ease in dealing with students, and more clarity and efficiency.
The principal of HSTAT says,
“The Art of Living Course for Educators was a wonderful and powerful experience for my teachers: they experienced a great reduction in stress levels as a result of the seminar. It has helped them to deal calmly with trying situations and students in the classroom. They have reported better moods in general, and a greater sense of ease and closeness with their co-workers. Feelings of tension and anxiety have decreased, and the ability to focus over long periods of time has improved.
The program for high school students, the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!), has had an equally positive impact. Students have shared with me how much more relaxed they feel, and how the techniques have helped them do homework with greater efficiency. Many say it has helped them with test anxiety, as well as given them tools to deal with their negative emotions. They all seemed to enjoy the program and many continue to use the techniques on their own. I have seen an increase in confidence as well as abilities to prioritize as a result of the program.
These programs give tools that are not easily learned inside of school, but that can enhance the abilities and quality of work for students and teachers alike.

"The YES! Course is a great way for young people to deal with their inner problems and improve their lives and way of living. The breathing practices bring me into the present moment and centers me in my body. By the end of the course I felt incredible!"

“YES! was interesting. You learn a lot of useful techniques. I liked the Kriya because it relaxes you and in some way you become aware. The breathing helped in having self-confidence whenever needed and how to calm yourself when you are angry or upset. I feel fortunate that I came to take this course because now I can practice yoga on my own and have the privilege of knowing how to calm myself whenever I get upset.”
Rosa, 17, NYC
“I think I learned a lot this week. All of the lessons make sense and can help me make life a smoother ride, but the challenge of applying them starts now. I have always been a person who worries too much about what others think…the exercises and discussions we experienced this week will give me some more strength and confidence to face the many challenges I will soon face in the approaching year of college.” Sameer Agrawal
"The YES! Course is a good method to make friends and learn fun techniques for life. The breathing practices helped me to focus more."
Nikil, 15, CA
“YES! is something that empowers youth physically and mentally. The breathing allowed me to stop thinking about stressful things and allowed me to clear my mind. I like how much relaxation it brought to me. I felt a lot more focused at the end of the course.”
Sterling, 17, NYC
“This program/course has been an incredible experience for me not only mentally, but also my performance in other things I do such as tennis. I’ve become a calmer, more focused and concentrated person where I used to not be able to really calm myself and my mind down. I’ve also improved a lot in tennis because I’m able to become more focused, and being button proof helped me to understand my dad more when he coaches me. I’ve really enjoyed this class and I look forward to taking it again."
Chloe Chang
“Through the course I got to learn some relaxation and meditation techniques that I really find fun and beneficial. I also appreciated the kindness and openness everyone showed throughout the course. I am really glad I got to meet people who are so different from the people I usually hang out with. I liked the discussion of different topics everyday. They really applied to my life and made me think.”
Melissa V. Llamera
“I would definitely recommend this course to other people. I know a lot of people who stress out very easily, and this course seriously let me calm down. It is somewhere where they don’t have to worry about school or anything outside, it is somewhere where you can be yourself for a moment and just kind of get to know who you are. I think it helped me to get a lot of emotions out because I do bottle my emotions. The day after the kriya I felt like I was happy for the first time in a while because I put a lot of stress on myself... I really liked the dancing, because I am the type of person who would never dance in front of anyone in the world, and YES! let me do what I wanted to do without worrying about what other people thought.”
Niveditha Poola
“I like that we do these type of yoga things and it calms our mind because as high school students we have a lot of stress on our hands, but with this class we can relax and calm down and when we go home we can do our homework and everything with a clear mind and not worry about anything.”
Los Angeles High School Student
"I can honestly say that this course was one of the best experiences of my life up until now. When I left each session I felt so much better about myself. I felt like I can get through any test, problem or obstacle and my self-esteem was certainly uplifted. Overall the breathing seminar has given me something that I can use for the rest of my life. I would most definitely recommend the class to anyone, especially my peers. These days every day there seems to be something contributing to our level of stress and it seems impossible to relieve. The people who take this class are the lucky ones and the ones who will always be ahead of the game in school and in life in general."
Sajma, 16, NYC
"What I enjoyed about the course was that I learned to relax. It was an opportunity to get away from my usual environment, meet new people, play games, meditate, breathe. All in all I enjoyed being able to be myself! Thank you!"
Mallika, 17, NYC
"The YES! Course is fun and awesome! The breathing techniques made me calm and centered. They also made me feel energized. I feel refreshed and eager to go out and fix problems! I highly recommend this course!"
Becca, 15, MI
“My overall experience wasn’t just good, it was actually great. I enjoyed YES! a lot and I didn’t think I would, I just sort of thought it would be mediocre, but I got so much but of it. I think it improved me as a person; my character and my outlook on life. Before I was a little less sure of myself but now I feel more full. After the kriya I felt calm, like there were no more waves in the water. I liked how we talked about a lot of things, like a lot of the problems we face in everyday life, it touched really deep I guess and I wasn’t expecting it to. I would recommend this to probably everyone I know because all of them have problems that are just like mine, it would help so many people... I’m really grateful for this opportunity. I’m grateful for the course and the people who provide and allow for kids like us to do this for pretty much nothing at all.”
Demetra Powell
“It helped me to breathe better and I haven’t needed my asthma pump. I feel fortunate that I can to take this course because now I can practice yoga on my own and have the privilege of knowing how to calm myself whenever I get upset, etc.”
Mack, 17, NYC
"I think everyone should do the YES! Course because the Kriya changes you and really develops you. I noticed this whole week that I was in a better mood. I was happy and relaxed. And the course is fun! I feel like a different person and I learned so much!"
Hannah, 15, NV
"YES! Has interesting and deep points about how to live life happily. The breathing exercises help me to feel much more energetic and happy. I am waking up earlier and I don't feel like sleeping 24/7! I feel very good as if I am a better person. YES! Should stand for Young Exceptional Students!"
Olivia, 15, CA
"YES! Is really great! I liked meeting new people and having discussions about real life things we [as teens] need advice on. The breathing exercises made me more aware of my breath and helped me with my asthma. The course is a place where you can learn the art of living and the relation of breath to life."
Claudia, 13, NYC
"The YES program has made a significant change in my life. Before, I would go to school grumpy and upset due to things that had occurred the day before. I wouldn't do well in school and I'd lash out at people for no reason. After I took the YES program, I used the breathing techniques they taught me to calm myself down. I no longer was grumpy and upset, but jolly and friendly. I gained many friends through the YES program and even my grades are higher. Everyone in the YES program was supportive and caring toward me and the other students. It was a great experience and I will never forget it nor the people in it."
Melissa, Los Angeles
"I am proud to say that the YES program has made a HUGE difference in my life! When I experienced the YES program for the first time, I was amazed! I let go of emotions I had kept bottled up inside. My attitude toward people in school changed. I learned to appreciate people whom before I used to take for granted. It brought my best friend (who took the course too) and I closer together. What I enjoyed the most was the support I received from the YES instructors and new friendships made. The YES program was an amazing experience that I will always carry in my heart."

Youth and Spirituality
Life is made of matter and spirit. Matter is amino acids proteins bones flesh, etc. The spirit is made up of enthusiasm, joy, love and beauty. You need food for the stomach, taste for the tongue, beauty for the eyes, and fun and celebration. All these are a part of one’s life and spirituality is something that encompasses all these avenues, human values, compassion, caring – are all part of spirituality.
Spirituality is not just sitting and doing some practice – it is a value system, a way of life.
Today’s youth need a broadening of their vision about life, and deepening of their roots in their culture, tradition and value systems. Deepening their roots in their culture, tradition and value systems. Deepening their roots, gives a sense of responsibility and ownership, while a broader vision, gives a sense of relaxation. A broader vision and deeper roots really mean responsibility with ease ,calmness, and equanimity.
Inhibition is the biggest problem amongst our youth – they worry about what the other person is going to think about them.
Another problem is the tendency of the mind to cling more to the negative, than to the positive. To break free from this, youth need to take responsibility for themselves, and ensure that their minds are clear, and not clogged. All spiritual practices and celebrations lead one to a more fulfilled and joyful life – more love and care, and this is what our youth require.
Taking a look into their lives, they need to see life from a bigger context and not just look into Immediate short-term benefits. Through this they need to bring about a shift from : “What can I have ?” to “ What can I give ?” – shift from competition to contribution. This can happen , when they attend to the four sources of energy –proper food, proper rest, a little attention to their breadth, and a few minutes for a calm, collected, meditative mind.
Youth complain of lack of concentration. When do you need to concentrate? Do you need to concentrate, when you love the subject? You require concentration for something, which you don’t like to do! So just love everything you do! Only, when we transcend the thinking level, settle down, and calm the mind, do we access the richness that we are!
Youth NEED to realize they have huge potential and strength to achieve what they want. This is possible if they have SOME QUIET MOMENTS TO THEMSELVES!
Unfortunately, SPIRITUALITY is shown as something SERIOUS. Caring for life, uplifting life – is spirituality, and by keeping it in its true spirit of celebration, joy and sincere love, youth come around to it. I think it is our expression that matters.Today’s youth are mature enough, and they are realizing the NEED of SPIRITUALITY in their Lives. They experience the peak of material prosperity and comfort, so much so that life has become saturated with stimulations.Everyone is yearning for a sense of serenity, calmness, inner peace, and sincere LOVE.At the heart of EACH person, is a longing for truth, for love – and spirituality is able to open the lid that has been blocked for many years. One finds SOLACE, STRENGTH AND ABILITY to find results effectively.
-- H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Youth Empowerment Seminar PLUS (YES!+):
< 30] - 18 [Ages>
YES!+ is an innovative and dynamic educational and life skills program that provides young students and professionals the tools to achieve their ideal life with ease, creativity, energy, and inhibition-free.
The growing demands placed on an individual to be successful in our fast-paced, stressful global society make it even more necessary for college students to have the tools they need to make responsible life decisions with confidence and clarity, more joy and enthusiasm while developing a broader vision along with cultivating leadership potential. Quality and success in life are determined by our state of mind. Under stress and pressure, the mind often vacillates between regretting the past and worrying about the future.
This constant vacillation results in lower performance, lack of concentration, decreased efficiency, and more interpersonal conflicts. The YES!+ course for college students both challenges and empowers students to become more centered and focused, to manage negative emotions and to live life more fully in the present moment, with increased awareness, perception and expression.
The techniques and processes taught during the seminar make the student experience much more enriching and full. The tools and experiences gained are essential for any future work environment. Graduates of the seminar report improved focus and concentration, increased confidence, enhanced creativity and efficiency throughout the day as well as improved interpersonal relationships and a sense of naturalness in life.

Sahaj Samadhi
"A mind in the present moment is meditation"
–- H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Sahaj means natural, effortless and Samadhi is a deep meditative state of mind. Sahaj Samadhi is exactly that - a natural, effortless system of meditation that allows the conscious mind to settle deeply into the self, thus giving it much needed deep rest. When the mind settles down it lets go of all tension and stress and centers itself into the present moment.
It is only in the present moment - those moments when the mind is free from regrets about the past, and anxiety about the future - that one finds true happiness. In just a few sessions you will learn to tap the depths of your own nature.
Sahaj Samadhi meditation is very easy and enjoyable and regular daily practice can totally transform the quality of your life.

Sri Sri Yoga
It is an inherent desire in humans to be happy. The ancient sages, through inquiry about life, were able to reach a state of consciousness in which the secrets of healthier, happier and meaningful living were revealed to them. Sages called that secret and sacred knowledge ‘Yoga’
The term ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’, meaning union; the union of the individual consciousness with the universal Consciousness. The knowledge of yoga can be found in ancient scriptures dating back over 5000 years. According to Hindu mythology, this knowledge was first revealed by Lord Shiva to his wife Parvati (also known as Shakti, the cosmic creative energy).
Yoga transcends any religion or culture. Its application is universal. Yoga is not merely a form of exercise for the body, but a path towards total harmony of body, mind and spirit.
It is ancient wisdom for a healthier, happier and more peaceful way of living that ultimately leads to Self-realization, the union with the Self. It was from this state of union when Jesus said Me and My Father are one.
What is Sri Sri Yoga?
Sri Sri Yoga is a prayerful and balanced discipline, which offers a multi-path approach for uniting body, breath and mind with awareness. Sri Sri Yoga brings you the wisdom and techniques of yoga in a very joyful, sincere and thorough manner. A combination of gentle and vigorous series of asanas is taught for the well-being of the body, while an equal emphasis is placed on techniques for nurturing the mind and spirit. Sri Sri Yoga brings you back to your natural self, thereby nurturing all the virtues that you are born with. For those interested in exploring their inner Being further, a vast ocean of knowledge and many meditative techniques are available through our Art of Living courses.
Sri Sri Yoga is a 10 hour workshop spread over 6 days. It is an ancient wisdom for a healthier, happier and more peaceful way of living. In Sri Sri yoga the wisdom and techniques of yoga are brought to you in a very pure, joyful and thorough manner. Asanas, pranayamas and meditation are the main tools used in the course.
These techniques enable us to unite the body, breath and mind in awareness. This brings you back to your natural self and develops all the good qualities that we were born with.
Benefits of Practicing Yoga
 Yoga and Body
On the physical level, some of the benefits of yoga are that it: Improves flexibility, the range of joint movements, the posture and alignment of the body, blood circulation and digestion.
Strengthens, nourishes and tones the muscles, joints, bones, internal tissues and organs. Enhances the function of endocrine glands; Provides prevention, relief and helps recovery from many illnesses such as chronic pain, anxiety and panic, gastro-intestinal disorders, sleep disturbances, fatigue, high blood pressure, headaches, depression, etc.; Overall the body feels healthier, more energetic, balanced, graceful, with greater immunity to disease and stress-related effects.
Yoga and Mind
If the mind is well, all else feels well. That is why, in Sri Sri Yoga, a great importance is given to the wellness of mind. With regular practice of yoga some of the benefits one experiences are:

More peacefulness and calmness Improved alertness and clarity Increased ability to deal effectively with short and long term stressful situations. Increased concentration of mind Improved self-esteem Decreased reliance on drugs. Greater energy and enthusiasm for life.
Yoga and Spirit
It is the ignorance alone that keeps one from seeing the reality of life. Ignorance alone is the cause of all sufferings. Through the regular practice of yoga one develops skills and experiential understanding to see the reality of life and appreciate its beauty.
When you see the beauty in life, you are able to admire and adore the Creator—the Spirit---the God. You see the Divine presence every where including in yourself. You form a stronger and loving connection with yourself which brings fulfilment and a meaningful purpose to life. It is out of this fulfillment you experience unconditional happiness and are able to share this joy with others.
What happens to a person when they are totally taken care if in every aspect of life: physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually? Not just taken care of in the most basic way, but completely and absolutely fulfilled so that any feeling of need or want subsides, and each moment is so wonderful that any thought fades into insignificance.
Different Paths of Yoga
Yoga is the journey as well as the goal. Just as all rivers lead to the ocean, all paths of yoga lead to Self-realisation.
There are many paths of yoga prescribed in the scriptures. Though the journey may begin on any single path, for full blossoming and fulfillment, a multi-path approach needs to be followed. All paths can be categorized into following primary paths
Bhakti Yoga– The Path of Devotion
God’s love is unconditional. Acknowledging that love and reflecting it back to God is devotion. Blossoming of devotion toward God is the sweetest experience one can have. Devotion means being in a state of complete surrender to God. It is the willingness to serve God with love and with feelings of gratefulness. A devotee sees divinity everywhere and yet has an intense longing for God.
Love toward God can take many forms with many different feelings. For example, it can be the feeling of a true friendship with God; of being a faithful servant to God; of being a beloved of God; of being a child of God; or of being a parent to God.
A devotee transcends worldly sorrows or pains. It is in devotion that one experiences total freedom from fear and worry. Devotion is the simplest way of receiving freedom from worldly bondage. A true devotee has no self-desires, including the desire for liberation.
Devotion in one’s heart is kindled by the grace of a guru, by being in the company of other devotees, and by reading and listening to the stories of other devotees.
“Those who worship the imperishable, the indefinable, the unmanifest, the omnipresent, the unthinkable, the immovable and the eternal, fixing their mind on God, ever steadfast and endowed with supreme faith, are the best in Yoga.”
-- The Bhagvad Gita
Karma Yoga – The Path of Selfless Service
Karma Yoga is the path of serving others selflessly: putting in 100% effort but not expecting anything in return. Karma Yoga is closely linked to Bhakti Yoga for without love and devotion it would not be possible to serve others selflessly. Performing one’s duties and serving humanity without any selfish motives purifies the heart and brings fulfillment.
Gnana Yoga – The Path of Knowledge
We have read and heard that God is Omnipresent and every one is Divine. And that the reality of life lies hidden behind what one can see or touch. For most people, however, this is only a concept. The path of knowledge is the experiential knowledge of the Self, it is wisdom that discriminates between that which is real and unreal.
The true and the highest knowledge is the knowledge of the Self. Though one begin begin on this path by reading scriptures and listening to the wise, the knowledge flows from within by the grace of the Guru. The knowledge gained by reading or hearing only may give rise to the ‘I know it’ attitude which feeds the ego and can be an obstacle in one’s spiritual evolution. The wisdom or the knowledge of the Self, on the other hand, brings surrender and devotion in one’s life. A wise person remains unaffected by the transient, unreal events in life.
Ashtanga Yoga – Eight Limbs of Yoga
The mind is constantly engaged in all kinds of mental activity. The more activity there is, the more clouded the mind is. When the mind is calm, one’s perception is clearer and one is free from fears and worries. Patanjali, an ancient sage, defined yoga as the ‘restraining of thought waves’.
He compiled ‘Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras’, the aphorisms of yoga, in which he provides eight-limbed approach for the well-being and purification of body, mind and soul. Eight- limbed approach, known as Ashtanga Yoga consists practicing of: social ethics, individual ethics, postures, breath control, discipline of the senses, concentration, meditation, and self-realisation or equanimity.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga, a very popular path of yoga, consists of some of the elements of Ashtanga yoga, primarily, the Postures, Breath control, and Meditation.
Experiences
I feel that this is what happened to me in Taiwan when I attended Sri Sri Yoga Phase 1 during the passed two weeks. From the first moment of the course we were uplifted, supported and loved. The Grace was tangible. The power of this course is beyond compare… From my side I gave two weeks and 100% commitment, then Guruji and Krishanji took me and strengthened me, softened me, cleansed me, elevated me and fulfilled me with the most amazing knowledge and experiences that are available in this world. Krishanji was the perfect example of a kind and loving teacher and Yogi.
I was physically well before I went. Now my body is shining. My skin is glowing, my muscles feel strong and my body is incredibly relaxed and comfortable to be in. Since finishing the course it is as if my body loves the practice so much that it drags me to my yoga mat and begins to practice all by itself!!
During the course I saw other bodies also change. Kilos were lost, firmness created and all the systems in our bodies were balanced and rejuvenated; yet it felt so effortless.
This mind has had two weeks of solid training. Guruji's trademark sutras were there throughout the course: new ones that I have not heard before, and old ones given new life. Guruji's sutras work and keep on working, the seeds are in there now planted with love and they are growing. On the course we had the necessary time to really soak up the teachings. I feel very playful and light about my mind and its behaviour. My thoughts come with less force and speed. I have the use of a mind that is stable, calm and loving. What a gift this is. And I know that it can be made clearer and clearer by letting go again and again. Finally I have been given the stamina and confidence to practice and work with my mind. Emotionally I feel complete. I feel gratitude and love, and these are the dominant feelings, staying with me even since leaving Taiwan and returning to work. These feelings are there behind all the fleeting emotions that used to clog my system and leave me tired and confused. Socially and Spiritually I am brand new. I really know how much I belong here. Never before have I really appreciated how much grace is flowing through every person and place on this planet. When I practice, when I recount my experience to people and when I am reminded of the course I feel the joy welling up. Never have I cried, laughed and smiled so much out of joy and gratitude. Now more than ever I can appreciate what Art of Living is doing for people and for our whole world. If you ever have the chance you must experience this course. It will elevate you to unimaginable heights and leave you firmly established there...
---Bernice Bailey
Days and nights filled with silences, pranayamas, asanas, strictness, compassion, love, surprises, laughter, joy, afternoon walks, beautiful satsangs, anatomy discussions, and a continuous stream of knowledge. Pity, the course has ended, but the journey to the Source is lit with Guru Dev's grace....
---Chandani
I am so deeply touched that I feel I am a new person. The discipline instilled during the yoga training brought me to an excellent physical condition. By the end of the course I was holding postures with such ease and in deep meditation. My yoga practice was missing a deeper connection. The knowledge given to us in this course has integrated into a complete sadhana. Although I have been to other teacher workshops/programs, this was one unlike any of the others. I believe now I have learned what true yoga is.......
---Kiran
These two weeks have been the most challenging and most fulfilling in all of my life. I feel new, both physically and mentally. My body feels stronger, somewhat leaner, and a lot more flexible. I feel happy, strong and positive. The knowledge that we got satisfied me deeply and left me begging for more. I am totally and completely bewildered......
---Alexandra
As I unite in this moment, I feel such a gratitude, I feel so precious to be able to be under this umbrella of Divine grace and to be able to go out in the world and share this precious pearl with humanity and all of creation. ....
---Daniel
Union with myself, that is what this journey of Sri Sri Yoga has been about for me. Everyday I become more and more aware of the changes that are occurring in this body and mind and with that, my spirit feels at peace. Peace with myself. Practicing yoga in the morning is an awakening; each cell in the body is waking up and wishing me good morning; my mind feels as if I have just opened a window and taken a deep breath of fresh air and my spirit is being caressed by the divine. Simplicity is dawning in my life; just being, doing, and relaxing ( with a song and a smile). Sri Sri yoga I think has quietened the waves of a mind that is very susceptible to turbulence and allowed serene simplicity to manifest. I feel healthier and happier...

Vaastu Shastra
THE FIRST VAASTU SHASTRA COURSE AT THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER IN BANGALORE
Vaastu Shastra is the science of building and essentially the art of balancing nature with manmade environment and the correct placement of man in such a manner so as to get the maximum benefits of the energy emanated by natural and man-made environment. Constructed by 18 Divine Maharishis like Bhrugu, Atri and Vasishtha, this science has a tradition of more than 10,000 years.
The first ever course on VAASTU SHASTRA ended at our very Bangalore ashram with 40 participants from all over the world. It was a 10 full day workshop (Dec 3-12, 2006) conducted by the revered Vaastu expert Dr. N.H. Sahasrabudhe. The course participants came from all walks of life and backgrounds - from college students to Vaastu consultants to professionals & businessmen and even housewives! The way the teacher conducted the course was very profound with much fun and deep knowledge, making the subject easy to grasp, also for international participants who never had any idea about Vaastu Shastra.

- Jyoti Singh, Housewife (India)
What is Vaastu Shastra?
The science of energy, which deals with the construction of houses, palaces, temples and towns is called Vaastu Shastra. It reads the characteristics of houses/plots and explains the effect of the same to the inmate of the house. This science is also based on the laws of nature. Its theories offer us a way of understanding the relationship between humans and their environment and about how everything is connected and affects our well-being. In other words, Vaastu Shastra is the science of building and essentially the art of balancing nature with manmade environment and the correct placement of man in such a manner so as to get the maximum benefits of the energy emanated by natural and man-made environment. Constructed by 18 Divine Maharishis like Bhrugu, Atri and Vasishtha, this science has a tradition of more than 10,000 years.
Role & Benefits of Vaastu Shastra
Vaastu is the bridge between man and nature. Everything is made up of basic five elements FIRE, WATER, EARTH, SPACE, and AIR. If the residential and commercial buildings are constructed without any regards to these elements then how will they give any benefits? From each of the basic elements we get a strange precious gift due to infinite powers of the universe and when the tenets of Vaastu Shastra are followed, it brings you the ‘3 Ps’ of life: Peace, Prosperity and Progress. Vaastu is in a position to reduce the gravity of the problems faced by human beings and industries through vibrations of the five great elements that have anchored their roots in the body of human beings as well as the external and internal building configurations.
